Italy born Loreto DeMartinis, came to America in 1893 at the age of 16. He met and married Margaret Anna Sharp July 8, 1898. Their first home on Factory Hollow in West Bloomfield burned down, prompting them to purchase the Tamarack Swamp on Conn Road in 1907. They built a large modern home which was destroyed by a chimney fire in 1941. They rebuilt their home on the same foundation. The DeMartinis’ farmed the land, growing crops of celery, onion, and potatoes in the muck lands. They built a green house, chicken coop, horse barn, as well as a large cooling barn and a smaller drying barn, which are still a part of the amazing property. We fell in love with this hidden gem and decided to make it our home in December of 2018.
